Pronóstico de Olas METAREA VI Compartir en redes sociales Referencias METAREA VI English Version The forecast for sea waves in the METAREA VI is made by the Department of Meteorology at the Naval Hydrographic Service, using the information of the wave model AUSTRAL WAVEWATCH III, according with the implementation made by the Naval Hydrographic Service and the National Weather Service for South Atlantic Ocean based on the model WAVEWATCH III ® (Tolman, 2009) developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). This Bulletin involves the METAREA VI, according with established by the World Meteorological Organization. Coastal zones are not included. The update is twice a day, at 09:00 UTC and at 21:00 UTC. The wave forecast is valid for the next 48 hours. The sea wave heights are expressed in meters and distances in nautical miles. The Bulletin consists in three sections: Section 1 - Notice. Information about sea waves with height over 5 m in the forecast period. Section 2 - Forecast. Information about sea waves with height over 2,5 m in the forecast period. Section 3 - Information about swell over 3 m. The areas in the reference map have been defined according with the Meteorological forecast for coastal zone and maritime areas of the National Weather Service, with the objective of generate concordance with the forecast sector for METAREA VI. The areas are defined as follows (the names of these remain in Spanish for the correct use with the map in the web site): RIO DE LA PLATA: From the mouth of Paraná and Uruguay rivers to an imaginary line that goes from Punta del Este in República Oriental del Uruguay (Latitude: 34º 58,062’ South and Longitude: 054º 57,032’ West) to Punta Rasa in República Argentina (Latitude: 36º 17’ 23" South and Longitude: 056º 47’ 03" West), and the area in the Atlantic Ocean between the two geographical points and 300 nautical miles offshore A: Mar del Plata,from 36º17’ South to 38º 30’ South and from the coast to 300 nautical miles offshore. B: Bahía Blanca, from 38º30’ South to 41º South and from the coast to 300 nautical miles offshore. C: Península Valdés,from 41º South to 45º South and from the coast to 300 nautical miles offshore. D: Golfo San Jorge, from 45º South to 48º South and from the coast to 300 nautical miles offshore. E: Patagonia Sur,from 48º South to 54º South and from the coast to 300 nautical miles offshore. F: Fin del mundo,from 54º South to 55º South and from the coast to 300 nautical miles offshore. G: Islas Malvinas. AREA DRAKE: From latitude 55º South to 60º South and from longitude 67º16’ West to 60º West. AREA NORTE: From latitude 35º50’ South to 40º South and from eastern boundary of Zones A and B to 20º West. AREA CENTRO OESTE: From latitude 40º South to 50º South and from eastern boundary of Zones B, C, D and E to 40º West. AREA CENTRO ESTE: From latitude 40º South to 50º South and from longitude 40º West to 20º West. AREA SUR OESTE: From latitude 50º South to 60º South and from longitude 60º West to 40º West. AREA SUR ESTE: From latitude 50º South to 60º South and from longitude 40º West to 20º West. ZONA 1: Drake South (south of 60ºS). ZONA 2: Mar de la Flota. ZONA 3: Gerlache Strait. ZONA 4: Margarita Bay. ZONA 5: Erebus and Terror Gulf. NORTHERN WEDDELL SEA: 60ºS-68ºS and 20ºW-50ºW. SOUTHERN WEDDELL SEA: 68ºS-78ºS and 20ºW-60ºW. El Pronóstico de Olas de la METAREA VI es elaborado por el Departamento Meteorología del Servicio de Hidrografía Naval en función de la información del modelo de olas AUSTRAL WAVEWATCH III, según la implementación realizada por el Servicio de Hidrografía Naval y el Servicio Meteorológico Nacional para el Océano Atlántico Sur del modelo de olas WAVEWATCH III ® (Tolman, 2009) desarrollado por National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) y por National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). Este Boletín abarca la METAREA VI, según lo establecido por la Organización Meteorológica Mundial. No se incluyen zonas costeras. Se actualiza dos veces por día, a 09:00 UTC y 21:00 UTC. La validez del pronóstico es por 48 horas. Las alturas de olas significativas se informan en metros y las distancias en millas náuticas. El Boletín se compone de tres partes: Parte 1 - Avisos. Se informa desplazamiento de olas mayores a 5 m en todo el período de pronóstico. Parte 2 - Pronóstico. Se informa desplazamiento de las olas iguales o mayores a 2,5 m. Parte 3 - Se informa de donde procede el mar de fondo, mayor a 3 m. Las áreas del mapa de referencia se han definido de acuerdo a lo establecido por el Servicio Meteorológico Nacional en su Pronóstico meteorológico para zonas costeras y áreas marítimas, a fin de generar coincidencia con los sectores de pronóstico de la METAREA VI. Estas áreas son las siguientes: RIO DE LA PLATA: Desde la desembocadura de los ríos Paraná y Uruguay hasta una línea imaginaria que une Punta del Este en la República Oriental del Uruguay (Latitud: 34º 58,062’ Sur y Longitud: 054º 57,032’ Oeste) y Punta Rasa en la República Argentina (Latitud: 36º 17’ 23" Sur y Longitud: 056º 47’ 03" Oeste), y el área del Océano Atlántico entre estos dos puntos geográficos y 300 millas náuticas mar afuera.
